To accurately measure the width of your ring finger and determine its diameter for ring sizing, follow these steps:
Method 1: Using a Strip of Paper or String
- Wrap a thin strip of paper or string around the base of your finger where the ring will sit.
- Mark the point where the ends meet with a pen.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimetres (this is your finger’s circumference).
- Divide the circumference by π (3.14) to find the diameter.
Example:
- If your finger measures 54mm in circumference, divide by 3.14 → Diameter = 17.2mm
Method 2: Using a Ring You Already Own
- Select a ring that fits comfortably on the same finger.
- Place it on a ruler or calliper and measure the inside diameter in millimetres.
- Use a ring size chart to match the diameter to the correct size.
Method 3: Using a Ring Sizer
For the most accurate results, use a plastic or metal ring sizer, which provides precise sizing without calculations.
